Kids get killed mostly because they react like a kid and start screaming and
thrashing which heightens the dogs attack mode. Generally if you hold still, don't scream and cover your neck and face with your hands most dogs will eventually give up and stop the attack no matter what the breed. But it's hard to teach a kid to do that.
Pits just aren't "more likely" than any other dog breed to kill someone, nor are their bites more dangerous. It's a myth that their jaws lock and have high level of bite pressure. Many other breeds have more pressure when they do.
People only think it's more likely because the media only seems to report the breed that killed someone if it's a pit, but don't mention the breed if it isn't.
