agree and disagree...
....we are lucky to have him and I doubt there's a better candidate out there. The pickings are very slim and I don't want to see him leave anytime soon.
The only thing I disagree with you on is that I don't think he can take us to the next level. It's not intended to be a knock, just my honest feeling. I think we had our best shot at the BCS during the Beck and Hall era. We had quite a concentration of NFL talent on offense with Beck, Collie, Coats, Pitta, Vakapuna, Tonga, Unga, Bright, Feinga, Reynolds, Watkins, Tahi, etc. Most of these players were recruited by other coaches (Crowton and Edwards) and I just don't see that level of talent coming into the program.
The jury is still out on players currently in the system like hoffman, Apo, etc. Hoffman has been a real gem, Apo seems to be coming into his own, but it seems like inspite of the fact that we've brought in some highly recruited players at positions like Tight End (Wilson, Holt, etc) and OL (Reynolds, etc) they don't seem to be progressing and aren't living up to expectations and Running back has been a real weakness on the team since the last of Crowton's recruits have left the program.
I think Bronco has brought stability to the program and restored pride but there's a trade off and that may be we have to lower our expectations as a result. He seems content to play a few tough teams close and then beat up on a bunch of patsies to get to 10 wins and a minor bowl game.
Kyle seems to have his number and has gained the upper hand in the rivalry. Bronco doesn't seem to care about winning the Holy War as much as Kyle does and as long as that continues I see our losing trend (7 of the last 10) continuing along that path.
Fall and spring camps continue to digress and are less organized and produce fewer and fewer positive results. When you look at our offense next year how many positions aren't a question mark? QB is a big question mark, RB is a big question mark, OL is a big question mark, TE is the biggest question mark. Fall and Spring camps are supposed to answer questions, instead they just create more.
Unless Bronco makes some major changes with the way he runs the program, I don't see the results changing either ("if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten.").
It's not a slam, it's just an acknowledgement that he is what he is and there aren't better options on the horizon.
