Poo, poo the hire all you want. He is coming in for a specific reason on Utah's side. Experience and specifically with the spread - he was a founder of the spread offense actually. Or at least he gets credit for this.
I think the reason he would take the job is that it puts him back in coaching in a BCS program. If/when successful, he will spring board this to something else.
We also don't know what he wants to do. He may be done being a HC, but still wants to do something in coaching. This is a good opportunity. He and Whitt are buds as well.
