There is a natural erosion of enthusiasm............
It happens to everyone whether they want to admit it or not. You don't have to look any further than the Big 12 dust up. Whether there was an invite or not, the majority of the fan base wanted it and when it didn't happen it is only natural to insulate yourself from further disappointment.

I find myself entering this off-season where I have been for the past three years. No expectations. The hiring of Robert Anae and some of the other coaches is great and I think finally addresses some needs on the offensive side of the ball, but the bottom line continues to be winning. And I don't mean beating up on the mediocre teams on our schedule. I want a win over Utah this year. No more excuses. No more talk of not losing recruiting battles, blah, blah, blah. Stop trying to hide your insecurity with making promises of national championships and TV exposure and the freedom of building your own schedule. I want a win over Boise State, ND, or Wisconsin this year. Show ESPN that they made a wise investment instead of giving them more examples to question their commitment.

I will pay my cougar club dues and buy my season tickets again this year even though I am not sure what to make of the coming season because I am a fan and have been for nearly 40 years. That is pretty much the only thing that has kept me coming back. Gary Crowton and Riley Nelson were almost the death of me this past decade, but its in my blood at this point. The biggest difference is my blood doesn't boil anymore when it comes to things the way it used to with BYU sports.
