How can you evaluate this without also taking into account the talent
they start with?

Once you do that, you hold Duke to a higher standard, yes, but they SHOULD be held to a higher standard-- they start with better players.

How would you evaluate this? Raw numbers in the NBA? That is far more biased against schools that struggle to recruit than the current analysis is against teams that recruit well.
