Tom does not announce anything until it is signed, sealed, and delivered.

Tom stated on BYUTV that BYU was going to enter the season without a pre-destination regarding a bowl game. However, Tom changed his mind along with ESPN. They have identified a bowl game in which BYU will participate in, unless they make the playoffs.

The announcement will come following BYU signing the final agreement and the opponent (conference) is identified.

My opinion only:

The bowl game most likely for 2014/15 will be the Christmas Bowl. Currently the Christmas Bowl has the PAC 10 1/2 vs. MWC. If you were a new start up bowl and could have BYU come to Southern California, wouldn't you jump all over that? Only a fool would turn down the opportunity - IMO.

Obviously, I do not know the contract the Christmas Bowl has with the Pac 10 1/2 and the MWC. However, being an ESPN bowl, I think something will be worked out financially.

I believe the hang-up is finding another bowl for probably the MWC to participate in, instead of Christmas Bowl - again IMO.

The second option would be the Cotton Bowl.

The Cotton Bowl currently has:

At large vs. Group of Five (AAC, CONF USA, MAC, MWC, and Sun Belt)

Once again, as a bowl promoter would you prefer BYU over any of the five conferences listed above? BYU will be playing three of the five conferences during the season (UConn, Houston, Boise, and USU.
