Jake was never very good. He got A LOT of run for four games.

Essentially Jake played in 19 games for BYU. If you look at his passer rating compared to the opposing defense's passer rating, he was above average in just five games (UNLV 2010, CSU 2010, UTEP 2010, Idaho 2011, New Mexico St 2011).

Riley was above average in five games in 2011 - which was basically half his games that season.

The Riley of 2011 was a fairly decent QB. The Riley of 2012 was as bad of a QB as Heaps in 2011. The difference was the coaches incorrectly only chose to bench one them, when they should have correctly benched both of them (Heaps in '11, Nelson in '12).

Both - for their careers - were just not up to the standard of what a BYU QB should be.
