I am in the minority in what way? Not liking the sound of Tate's voice, or not liking Queensryche? I am not sure how one would really prove either. And you would have to more succinctly define minority in this case. Maybe a Cougarboard poll?

I guess you could compare record sales to determine how much people prefer Queensryche when compared to their contemporaries. Although, I admit that isn't really a measure of Tate's voice alone.

That would, however, show that Queensryche's sales pale in comparison to other major bands with power vocalists like AC/DC, Maiden, Priest or Guns 'n Roses; selling only a fraction as many albums and never really making a name as a stadium packing headliner. And I would note that while Tate may have range, he has nowhere near the power of a Bruce Dickenson, and then let's not even get into stage presence. Probably part of why Queensryche was more successful as an opening act than as a headliner.

Or given their produced for MTV ballad Silent Lucidity, you could compare them to other major MTV/radio hair bands like Poison, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Van Halen or Bon Jovi, but that again would show a preference for metal bands other than Queensryche by 4 or 5 to 1 or greater.

Basically their numbers would indicate that they were marginally more successful than the bands that are currently on the State Fair circuit such as Cinderella, Quiet Riot, Extreme and the like. And when it comes to these bands, by their own admission, most of them were more interested in partying on the Sunset Strip than making serious records.

Even with that, not sure how you measure this with any level of surety. I will however give them credit for being one of the biggest prog rock sellers.
