This is a tough and personal decision with many, many variables. Data is coming.
Concussions are real and vary in severity and sequelae. There is so much we don't know. But there is info coming. The AAN and the NCAA have joined to begin a program of collecting serial bedside testing data and combining it with accelerometer data. It will measure both at differing points throughout a season. Very promising. 30 teams are involved. I don't know if BYU is one, but I'm writing to them to encourage participation. I encourage all of CB to ask Tom and Bronco to participate as well. This stuff usually comes with funding for the testing, too.

BYU needs to be part of the solution and show true dedication to protecting the student athlete.

It includes football, soccer, and lacrosse at a minimum if I remember correctly.

Let's not become Jenny McCarthy-like advocates for disproven theories or untested remedies. Let's get the data and use facts to make decisions.

This is important for the very reason you stated. Our young kids are participating and are potentially at risk. My personal opinion is play all you want, but if you have a first concussion you are likely to have a second, third, fourth, etc. and by then it could be too late. My kids will sit after the first concussion and possibly hang it up depending on testing results. I mind is a terrible thing to waste and you only get one.
