Windows 8.1 + Classic Shell = a familiar UI

Classic Shell let's you bypass the parts of 8.1 that are probably making you nervous. From your perspective, though, I'd choose your OS based on the software you'd like to run on it.

Tigerdirect.com for a PC. I don't use macs but it's hard justify $500-600 more
