Sure they scored 70 points, but more importantly it was on the AP #26 team. The week before that they beat the #17 team. The week before that they lost to the now #14 team.

Would they have received fewer than 136 additional votes if they had scored 50 instead? Probably, but the majority of their additional votes can be accounted for in the 82 votes that North Carolina had received the previous week.

People say style points matter, but really they care more about who you beat than by how much you beat them.
