Our three year average W/L since going independent has been 9-4(ish) with the possibility of a special season this year. For all intents and purposes, only four other times in recent BYU football history have the Cougars had better back-to-back-to-back records: 79-81, 83-85, 88-90, and 06-09. Also, last year BYU had Texas, Utah, Georgia Tech and Boise State at home - a much more interesting home schedule than most years with some more big names coming to LES before the end of the decade. Not playing for a conference title definitely has created some of the malaise but BYU football hasn't "gone downhill" to the extent you're trying to portray.
