Asking that the first play not be a QB draw is not asking to shelf him.
You have set up a straw man. I am not asking that Taysom never be run or that he not run. I am just asking that they selectively use his running. You know that he is going to choose to run on 7-10 pass plays a game. You know that you will call the read option 10-20 plays a game and that depending on what the LB does, he may get another 10 running plays. So without calling a straight QB draw, he is already going to have 15-17 or more carries a game. That is the ideal amount in my mind.

So save the QB draws for crucial 3rd or 4th downs or red zone areas. Don't waste it on the first play of the game. I don't care if it got 10 yards. All those plays and hits add up. Taysom did suffer a injury his freshman year, he is mortal. Running QBs are going down like crazy in CFB and the NFL this year. We don't need to run him into the ground in order to have a good year or even an undefeated season.
