I'm not sure that "Mark May was right"... and your picture may be a little TOO honest!!!!!!

I would argue than we have been better than MM would admit and better than the picture you have painted. You could make some of the same arguments about many schools that have been considered great...

But generally, I agree. We have done a LOT with less talent than most programs historically.

Obviously there are exceptions in that there are always a few absolute STUDS any given season (e.g. KVN, Hill, Sarkisian, Brown, Unga, Detmer, Young, McMahon, Jenkins, McKenzie, in no particular order and just off the top of my head).

But if we truly and fairly look at an SEC team, for example, we are going to see 15-20 of these kids every year, some even sitting the bench. We do get a lot of mileage out of our band of brothers... and I LOVE them for that. That they push themselves so hard that they can compete with Miami, K-State, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, etc. Sometimes that means there's a let down as well... but what an amazing ride for a school like ours. We are different. That's ok.

Even if and when we get into a P5 conference, I can't imagine that we will recruit as well as USC, Alabama, FSU, etc. We'll still be battling a little uphill. Maybe I'm wrong. Either way, I like being the underdog... that's where we've had a lot of fun as fans!

That being said, I'm not delusional... I am glad to have a team that entertains me every year. Frustration, happiness, elation, annoyance, all in a 3 hour window, then I go play with my kids! It's just entertainment, plain and simple.

I have played a lot of football and I have coached a lot of football. Doesn't make me an expert... does give me some insight sometimes (a lot of times, I'm wrong with that insight).
