RE: Thanks for the post and putting rumor to rest. One question I have for you:
Honestly, I have no idea. People continually ask him about schools and he typically responds that "all options are open". That may lead people to believe that BYU is still an option. However, I know what schools he has on his radar and BYU is no longer in the mix. Can you blame him? Honestly, it was the strangest recruiting process we have ever been through. It went from super hot to super cold in three days. Bronco wouldn't even come over and say hello after inviting him to attend their practice yet Tidwell and Poppinga would show up at the high school to watch his workouts and be at games. There is obviously much more to this scenario than anyone will ever understand or comprehend. We are all past that now. Lets just let bygones be bygones.
BYU is obviously in a tough predicament. As are we. If they offer now after saying there was "no room" they look bad.
If they offer now and he opts to go elsewhere they look bad for not doing it when he would have committed.
If they don't offer, people think they know something about him that makes him a bad fit for BYU and thus we look bad.
A true lose lose for everyone involved.
I think they feel it is better for them to avoid the first two scenarios and for us to continue to take the heat on Cougar Boards and other speculation in the media. Personally, I am tired of stories in the media about BYU and Porter. They are not generated, supported nor endorsed by us. Regardless of what the Cougar Board thinks. We want this to all go away as much as the coaching staff and fans of BYU. Lets all just accept that it is over and done with.
That is what upsets Porters. He is the only kid on the team that can quote (verbatim) the articles of faith, Purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood, and D&C 4. He avoids all sugars, has never drank a soda, will not consume anything unhealthy (including alcohol) and yet is assumed to be non BYU material due to not having a simple offer from BYU. In other words, it is not the lack of an offer he is upset with but the speculation on his character due to the lack of an offer.
Like I said, we have to look at the positive and just call it fate. Whether he succeeds in football after high school or not... this Destroying Angel was not destined to remain Utah Valley.
