and this year especially. BYU fans have been able to feel secure about themselves based on Utah struggling in the PAC 12. This year they took a step forward. They beat USC, UCLA, Michigan, Stanford in the same season. BYU doesn't have that many wins against name opponents in a single season in school history.

Utah is slowly moving forward, but at least they are moving forward. I don't see BYU being any better program now than when they were in the MWC. Even then, they were slipping within their own conference after their championships. The fan base feels like it is getting left behind. Utah is part of it and conference affiliation is part of it, but the bigger picture points to no visible progress.
