I didn't live in Bend but I would go for work. It's a GREAT town, but the thing
that would keep me from moving there is the isolation -- especially if you don't have family nearby. If you have family in Portland or Eugene or something, the distance is fine -- maybe even good. But if you're from out of state, travelling anywhere is an ordeal, unless you have good money and can afford to fly out of Redmond, which is a lot more expensive than Portland.

The Deschutes, Williamette, and Ochoco National Forests are gorgeous with lots of outdoor rec opportunities. Sisters is a charming little town nearby. Sun River is supposed to be great (I've never been). For the right job and right pay, I'd consider living in Bend. But like I said, it is really isolated so it would have to be a very lucrative offer.

BTW, Bend isn't rainy like Portland or Seattle since it is east of the Cascades. The climate in Bend is closer to the climate in northern Utah than it is to western Oregon/Washington.
