BYU does pay coaches competitive salaries. The Coaches Circle set up an endowment years ago to supplement what BYU pays coaches. This has been reported in the local media and discussed many times on CB.

Coaching salaries in LaVell's time were much lower and not so much of a problem for BYU to be competitive in the years before the Coaches Circle money was available.
