News for the program.
I have read a few posts regarding a three strikes and you're out policy employed by the coaching staff, which explains some of the missed games for such trivialities as earrings or being late to class.
If true, I believe this policy puts our program in an extremely dangerous place. The honor code is difficult enough to abide by, why make life more difficult for these young men? I don't believe there are many players who would purposely break the HC, and by holding these young men to such exacting standards as if they were toddlers leads to a softer more conservative style of play. These guys want nothing more than to be bad As on the field, and yet they are being metaphorically castrated by this overzealous application of rules. Let them be free to learn of their own experience.
What message is portrayed when a player is forced to sit out a game because of an earring? If I were a player the message I would receive is that the coaches and administration are far more interested in slapping wrists then putting forth the best product on the field. The policy emasculates the players. Can't we find a way to encourage the honor code without going beyond the mark?
