Big problem with Utah schools is that there are
no week long breaks during the school year except during Christmas when prices are outrageous (and we prefer being home for Christmas anyway).
When we lived in Upstate NY, there was typically a week long winter break in February and another week long spring break in April.
January-June, in particular is a long time without a significant break.
Along those lines I say, taking kids out of school for a week won't kill them (especially in elementary school).
