I'm not even a BYU fan and I think that if BYU had the "right" schedule they
could make it. For example, next year BYU plays Nebraska, Michigan, UCLA, Boise State, East Carolina, Cincy, and Missouri. Ok, so let's say that UCLA and/or Nebraska finish in the top 2 or 3 teams of the Pac-12 and Big 10. Then Boise repeats as MWC champs, Cincy or East Carolina win their conference or finish in the top 2, and Missouri has a decent season in the SEC. Similar to this year, but without a "are you kidding me loss" to a team like Indiana. I don't think that is all that far-fetched.

Ok, so here's the tough part, BYU has to go undefeated, which they haven't done since 1984 and certainly did not play a schedule like the one listed above. The scheduling is not the problem, it's simply that BYU must win the games.

Honestly, for BYU to ever make the playoffs, I think the following would need to take place.
>The playoff would have to expand to 8 teams. Until there is an automatic spot for the highest G5 team, no G5 team will likely ever be included because that would require at least 2 champs from the P5 conferences to be excluded. Not going to happen.

>If/when the expansion happens, if BYU is not included as part of the "highest ranked G5", then they should get themselves back into a G5 conference ASAP. However, I think BYU will likely be included in the "highest ranked G5" conversation. When that happens, BYU has got to ease up on the scheduling. The schedule is insane next year. If BYU starts 2-2 out of the gates I will be shocked. Anything above that and they should be nationally ranked.

> I would argue that BYU's schedule next year is too brutal. If they go undefeated they should be in the conversation. A 4-0 start next year, like this year, would certainly have BYU engaged in the playoff conversation. But I'll be blown away if that happens.
