I don't disagree with your facts, but your conclusion is poor reasoning.
The reality is that BYU didn't really have much of a choice. BYU had toyed with the independence idea for years and had made preparations if it should ever became a viable option. And with no P5 conference calling, the departure of Utah, and the MWC debacle, independence made sense at the time. It was the best option under the circumstances.
