Most peoples expenses go down with retirement and if you avoid lifestyle inflation you can easily have a luxurious lifestyle with that amount.
Also, based on your theory all the people that are retied right now and enjoying their lives with less than $2.5 million are make believe? lying? Or do you not acknowledge that there are retired people who have below $2.5 million?
