He has a lot to lose in that scenario. Yes, he is locked up for life,
but his entire fanily believes him. He would have to take the step of admitting guilt and removing all doubt that he is a murderer, just for revenge. He would still be in prison for life.

By denying he did it, he can be seen as a brave martyr and a poor soul by his family and anybody else that thinks he's innocent.

According to his story, he is also a victim.

That all goes away by implicating Jay.
