Az as a state is beautiful. As an urban area, Phoenix is gross.

Terrible architecture, no downtown, strip mall after strip mall, maybe the worst sprawl in America, awful traffic with commute times approaching an hour, basically one giant, fifty mile long suburban blah.

But the state itself is very scenic.
