The ACC thing is good, but not THAT big of a deal.
It's certainly a bigger good thing than Britain Covey to UU is a bad thing.

Ultimately, it will take more overall talent and a few more superstars and probably some better coaching (more money?) to get BYU to be a consistent top 20 team, not recognition by P-5 conferences.

Also, long term they probably just need to be in a P-5 conference. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out.

The ACC thing helps, but is certainly not a watershed event for BYU football. The world isn't ending either. The extreme opinions on here are not really rational, but the ACC announcement isn't a big in your face answer to the complaints.

Some things BYU has going for them right now that could help with talent and overall team quality:
-ESPN
-Some pretty good games on the schedule.
-The missionary age thing is stabilizing. BYU will now get guys for 4-5 years straight.
-IMO, Martzen, Wintrich hires look good in terms of the people and the direction of the program regarding staff.
-Overall, BYU is far more defensive oriented than they ever were under Lavell or Crowton. This was the biggest weakness for good BYU teams in the past.

Some tough for BYU things:
-The Honor Code/Mormon culture
-Located in Utah (this shouldn't be understated)
-Payroll issues
-Not P-5

Time will tell if BYU is a place that can recruit the talent to be top 10-20 every year or just continue as a top 25 about every third or fourth year or so like they've been for the last 40 years. Ultimately, the coach may not matter that much.
