No, you really don't. You don't understand that this is a process.
If BYU does not ever get into a P5, Independence it is. And that means that the stature of the program has to be recognized at some point, as P5. That's the end goal for Independence, if that's where BYU must be (we'd all rather get "promoted" to the Big 12 tomorrow, but we don't know if that will ever happen.

BYU has been called "similar to a P5" and also had schools including Missouri and Arizona say they already "think of them as a P5 opponent."

That's good. This is better. Much better. One of the P5 conferences officially regarding BYU as P5 is what BYU has been desperate to achieve. That's why Tom Holmoe spent so much time talking to the ACC and SEC commissioners last year, trying to get them to give us P5 recognition. It was disappointing when they turned him down.

The ACC officially recognizing BYU with P5 status for scheduling is a monumental step. I assure you, the Athletic Department is pumped over this victory.

This is the biggest step for Independent BYU that we have seen.
