I followed the Jazz as closely in Eaton's days as much as I do now. I've repeatedly stated that yes Eaton was an outstanding defensive player but I've also noted that he was horrible on the offensive end. People back then were always hoping for someone .. anyone to step in to replace Eaton that was even just decent on both ends. Ever wonder how someone that large and who only shot inside 3 ft generally, could shot a measly 45% ?
My point about Jefferson's defense (hopefully you'll get it this time) is that Jefferson was not a bad defensive player when guarding his own man but was obviously exposed when he had to switch to guarding a PG in Corbin's system. Ever wonder how he got better defensively once he went to Charlotte ? Ever wonder why Corbin's teams seem to do extremely poorly defensively ? (btw Sacramento got much worse defensively once Corbin took over.) Do you think it may have been due to a poor defensive scheme ? Jefferson's defense was obviously not elite but it certainly wasn't as bad as most make it out to be and he more than made up for it on the offensive end.
Btw ... have a link to those advanced metrics you mentioned ? I'd love to see them.
