Should schools have an "Athletics" Major?
Maybe it is time to drop some of the pretense that these guys are "scholars." There is money to be made at all level of sports. Perhaps there should be a specific, tailored, major that focuses on the many ways to make money in sports. To be honest, this major could be intentionally less, um, cerebral. Require them to show up and do the work, but make it attainable for students that would not otherwise make it in a competitive academic setting.

A big part of he hates ideas like this. Another part of me thinks it would be win-win. The athlete gets a degree that he can try to use and gets to play. The university gets a great player and offers them an education they might want.

Ideally, you would see universities touting the success of the non-professional-athletes who finished the "sports" major.

Although, I remember many classmates complaining that the General requirements were the most burdensome. For what ever reason, that was not my experience. I thought most general courses were relatively easy.
