This team has had its crazy ups and downs, but I think this has been one of
Rose's best coaching jobs in years. He has had to work through so much adversity. Losing two starters he was counting on to provide power inside was huge. Rose has demonstrated versatility and a willingness to change, adapt, game plan, make adjustments, etc., and has his team playing better defense. Haws and Collingsworth are not flashy. They both have a kind of workmanlike attitude and play hard. They make their share of mistakes, but the guys are all heart. We don't have a Jimmer making fantastic plays that bring national attention, but this team is still winning. The USD loss was horrible. And really, we let some go we had in the bag. But, this team does not and has not given up. I cannot say enough about the job Rose has done. I am not always a happy camper when it comes to BYU basketball. I do my share of complaining. But seriously, Rose has got these guys playing hard. This has actually been a really fun season.

I don't think we have the slightest prayer against Gonzaga tonight. But, I think Rose will have the guys ready to play. As for Haws, the guy is amazing. Not meant to slam Ainge or Jimmer, but the fact that Haws has done what he has done while serving a full time mission is all the more amazing. Haws left for his mission at a time when he knew BYU had some great players coming back. I don't think it caused Haws to even blink about going on his mission. That was always his plan. But, for the BYU all time scoring to be a returned missionary is really amazing, in my opinion. Haws has proved it CAN be done. Collinsworth has done the same thing. He left the team at a time when he knew he could make some great contributions to a team that could go places and still left on his mission. Now, he has come back not only from his mission, but from season ending knee surgery to set the all time record for triple doubles in a season. That is amazing!

So, for me, this season has not be dull or bland. It has been a lot of fun to watch. Rose, Haws, Collinsworth have all grown so much. Winder has been great, Kafusi has grown, Halford has become a big factor off the bench, and Fischer has his rain making moments - even Andrus has shown great improvement. With what we have seen, who can't be excited for BYU's basketball future? This team is only going to get better. (Oh, did I mention that Worthington is leaving on a mission? More good news.)
