Oh goody. I guess this means that BYU doesn't have to count the consolation
losses from the 1950's and 1960's, since the Cougars weren't really in the tournament anymore.

The NCAA Tournament has taken many different forms. In 1972 #9 BYU had to play #5 Long Beach State in their first game. By todays standard that would be unthinkable. But back then, they tried very hard to keep regional opponents in tact, which resulted in a some horrid draws for BYU.

Trying to parse certain wins and losses as valid tourney games is stupid.
