Tradition Bracket Round 1. Results are in!

Day two highlighting the Tradition Bracket did not disappoint. With a few unexpected blowouts, upsets, and some nail-biters, bracket fever has really caught on. The people are clamoring for the Honor Bracket. Soon enough. Here's a report of all of yesterday’s action:

Go here to vote on today's Honor Bracket: http://www.cougarboard.com/board/message.html?id=13825835

  • 1 HighHorse vs. 16 DoctorWho: The Doctor took the vaunted HighHorse off guard out of the gate, springing to a lead. But it didn't take long for Horse to call on his army of Paul-bots to crush his opponent. Will the -bots have enough in them to carry HighHorse all the way to the final round? Ha. Just like in real life: Nope. HighHorse takes this round with a score of 137-86.
  • 8 OU Cougar vs. 9 Finngirl: Whilst Finngirl was bemoaning the lack of female representation in the tournament, OU Cougar quietly went about his business and earned enough votes to oust his fretful opponent. Finngirl has sworn to continue her crusade until votes are distributed equally so that all participants get to win. This go-around, however, goes to OU Cougar 140-90.
  • 4 Snipe vs. 13 JOPE: Claiming that a 4-seed was an insult before the match-up ever started, it just looked like Snipe didn’t want to be there. JOPE did his thing and picked apart the usually unstoppable Snipe. Before Snipe could mount his last second push, JOPE had already established a significant lead and held off the juggernaut to the very end for a final score of 120-102.
  • 5 byutx vs. 12 PickleButton: Maybe it’s time for PickleButton to regale us with more stories of Family X. He was set up perfectly for a 12/5 upset, but bungled it phenomenally. More of a PickleButton loss than a byutx win. The final score was 125-99. Will the next round finally present byutx with the challenge he was hoping for? This could be good.
  • 2 goose vs. 15 hxmCougar2000: goose dominated this match with sheer masculinity and intimidation, insisting on a shirts/skins configuration with dibs on skins. Meanwhile, hxmCougar2000 spent the first three minutes of the matchup interpreting just exactly what his moniker is supposed to mean to his FO list. By then goose had already built an insurmountable lead which finally ended at 153-60.
  • 7 El Pasco vs. 10 laxcoug: This one bounced back and forth all day long. Very close and exciting match-up. I had called it right at 9:00 in favor of laxcoug, but then had to change the decision after viewing the replay sent in by Chad Bunn. Sorry, laxxy but the final score is 114-108. Pasco takes this one.
  • 3 Choke vs. 14 tarzan15: It took Choke only 13 seconds, one less than Rhonda Rousey, to get tarzan14 into a debilitating armbar. He literally held him there all day yesterday and threatened to break his arm if he or any of his FO list voted in his favor. This, of course, was blatantly against the rules, but I'm not doing anything about it. Choke wins 135-75. Just so you all know, Choke knows where you live.
  • 6 Funke vs. 11 Fatalplacebo: Fatalplacebo has nothing to be ashamed of in this match. Funke just had too much of what his people call “swag.” He literally swagged his way to a 120-94 victory.

  • 1 Mall Santa vs. 16 Byu4Life: Mall Santa showed up to this match in Stockton shorts leaving very little to the imagination. Even the cheerleaders were speechless. He rode the shock value to an easy victory over Byu4Life who kept getting himself confused with ByuIsLife. This one goes down in the books with a final score of 156-70.
  • 8 fattycoug vs. 9 Zak: fattycoug won this round pretty convincingly, until he started arguing against himself just to be contrarian. He had us all convinced that he should lose, but then he switched it around again and argued for himself. It was all very confusing, but in the end he takes this round 146-73.
  • 4 mulletino vs. 13 SandYFan: An expert in working the system, mulletino used 56 of his open credit card accounts and cashed his rewards points in directly to Jefe for dupe privileges. After using all of the dupes to vote for himself, he canceled the credit cards which revoked all of the reward points from Jefe, but by then, the damage had been done. SandYFan goes down easily 166-59, which of course he hated.
  • 5 Mathew vs. 12 jonnycarson: Another 12 seed over a 5 seed. After the match, Mathew ripped off his blue-tinted Kurt Rambis goggles in disgust. After firing his coach and cleaning house, Mathew swears that next year will be different. This year, however, he has to swallow a 166-55 loss.
  • 2 Epileptic Beagle vs. 15 TheDash: The inner "ward basketball" surfaced early for the usually mild-mannered TheDash. It wasn't until we ran and got the stake president that he started to behave himself. Meanwhile, Epileptic Beagle is still trying to figure out how to vote. If future rounds ever come down to a single deciding vote, he could be done for. This one ends 138-87.
  • 7 HuskerFan2 vs. 10 HansMoleman: The winner of this round? Karma. Maybe from now on you won't be so itchy with that suspension trigger finger, Husker. Meanwhile, Hans was saying boo-urns. Technically an upset with a score of 145-77, but no one actually feels upset. So, weird.
  • 3 erkimust vs. 14 Hank Rearden: Classic good guy/bad guy face off. Chalk one up for the bad guys. Hank Rearden brought a picnic to a gun fight and erkimust was like, “Get that corn outta my face!” He unloaded the whole clip on his opponent and kept pulling the trigger after it was empty for a 136-89 thwacking. Do not mess with this guy.
  • 6 Cougar-Duck vs. 11 uberslacker: Can a man serve two masters? Not if he wants to advance in this tournament. Cougar-Duck’s personality disorder, splitting his fandom between the Lord’s school and some crap team in the PAC12 probably did him in, or maybe uberslacker really is that good. With a 116-100 upset in the books, does he have what it takes to beat erkimust in the next round. Can’t wait for this one.

  • 1 Indy Coug vs. 16 Cylon Coug: In The Battle of Coug, Indy, the defending champion, comes out victorious. There are probably a full list of puns that Indy Coug could put here to make his blurb funnier, but I'm not coming up with anything. Final score: 161-66.
  • 8 Mickey vs. 9 Non-donor troll: Mickey must have been looking ahead to Indy Coug for the second round, because he barely showed up and was easily dismantled by Cougarboard’s favorite troll, 139-84.
  • 4 Six Foot Seven vs. 13 Kama'aina: Was Six Foot Seven another casualty of the name change phenomenon, or was Kama'aina really that underrated? A little of both? Kama takes this round in convincing fashion, 156-64, to set up a second round of Cinderella hopefuls.
  • 5 El Jefe vs. 12 whoneedscorners?: Jefe has no one but his crappy coding to blame for this embarrassing first round exit. Betrayed by the very poll that he showed me how to embed. With the 125-107 victory, whoneedscorners acts like he’s been there before, already drawing up a gameplan to take out Kama’aina in the next round.
  • 2 Abe Froman vs. 15 joebravo: Abe did his thing and never looked back. He easily took down joe, 151-67.
  • 7 endy vs. 10 JoeyJoeJoeJr: Neck and neck all day between these two worthy opponents. In the end, endy squeaks out a one-point victory. One tiny point! But Joey made enough noise this time to get his fanbase and national pundits excited for next year. This one finishes at 103-102.
  • 3 darkcoug vs. 14 Passive Sloth: The not-so-Passive Sloth ended up firing his campaign manager early in this one which ended up being the exact wrong thing to do. The rest of his campaign with no one but himself in charge was a desperate, slimy, mud-flinging fiasco. darkcoug stayed above the squalor and came out looking squeaky clean as always for a 148-62 win.
  • 6 ds7 vs. 11 garyfan: This one turned ugly quick, but after a few tersely-worded boardmail exchanges between these two, they both figured out that they were actually related in real life and had been bouncing forwarded e-mails to each other about Obama's birth certificate for years. They had a laugh and ended their feud after agreeing that it's not who wins that's important, but who's right...which is both of them. But ds7 technically wins with a score of 124-89, so he moves on.

  • 1 John Haddow vs. 16 byuluvr: John Haddow was actually behind in this match-up early this morning, but in the closing seconds of the round, he called up a few of his buddies, Tom Holmoe, Lavell Edwards, and seven of the twelve apostles, to create Cougarboard accounts and put him over the top 122-109. Be on your best behavior, gentlemen. We have apostles on the board now.
  • 8 Japan Coug vs. 9 vacougfan: This looked like an intriguing match-up on paper, and Japan Coug made it interesting, but in the end, vacougfan just came to play and finished the match with a 141-80 victory.
  • 4 Sea Chicken vs. 13 newey-west: So word around mod-town is that Indy Coug voted for Sea Chicken, and Sea Chicken voted for Indy Coug. Just saying. Sea Chicken moves on with a score of 133-87.
  • 5 Heinz57 vs. 12 Sonics: Another branding blunder. Once the witty, wry, Ron Mexico, now the vanilla, forgettable Sonics, maybe it’s time to sell the franchise to Oklahoma City. Heinz57 is no slouch, but Sonic’s fans were hoping for more of a fight in what many had circled as another 12 seed upset. Instead it ended in a typical 143-71 victory for Heinz57.
  • 2 flavordave vs. 15 The Old Y: This round would have been a much closer contest had it not been for a classless display of poor sportsmanship on flavordave's part. After a few hours of listening to The Old Y shout for him to sit down in front, flavordave finally had enough and tossed a powerful gif-bomb in Old Y's direction which blasted the blue hairs right off of his head. This one ends 137-83. We love you Old Y. Keep donating to BYU sports.
  • 7 glemonade11 vs. 10 Jeffacka: Utilizing the same offensive strategy that put him into the tournament, the Jeffacka-attacka, our underdog made a valiant effort. In the end, the veteran glemonade took down his opponent 121-98.
  • 3 deliciousmocha vs. 14 OpusX: The game plan was hack-a-mocha, which Opus clung to for the duration of the game. He ended up fouling out early and delicious had a field day finishing the match 167-49.
  • 6 defenstrator vs. 11 RealComfortableJeans: Yes, defenstrator will be challenging these results for the next few months with a myriad of charts, graphs, data, and support from 99% of scientists. But the results won't change. RCJ wins comfortably 141-66.
