Honor Bracket Round 1. Results are in!

In what pundits have argued was the strongest pool of 1 seeds, there were few real surprises in the Honor Bracket, but plenty of action to report.  Stay tuned for today's NoDUI's Bracket, but for now, here's the round up:

Vote for Round 1 of the NoDUI's Bracket Here:http://www.cougarboard.com/board/message.html?id=13832074

  • 1 MantiCoug vs. 16 The Y’s Insider: Manti put all of his wives to work and immediately leapt ahead by 50 votes and never looked back. In order to get permission for all of these separate Cougarboard accounts from the same IP address, Jefe required Manti to submit photo evidence of him standing with each of his wives. Rumor is that Manti will be posting these photos on his FO list. If you send a boardmail, he might still have room to add you to his list. Rest assured, Jefe has confirmed that these accounts are all legit. Manti wins going away 187-35.
  • 8 CarolinaCoug vs. 9 Bronco4Prez: This was teh match we were all waiting for. Even with the help of Carolina’s main man, Kyle Whittingham, and the entire Utah football team (at least the small number of them who could figure out how to work a computer), CarolinaCoug was unable to put up any fight at all which he blames entirely on Bronco Mendenhall. Bronco4Prez was able to mobilize each and every last one of his followers on the Loyal Cougars blog. Plus he received an additional 150 votes on top of that for a grand total of 155-71.
  • 4 UneducatedFan vs. 13 Sherlock: Sherlock made a huge push with the evening crowd, but even the Provo All-stars couldn’t put together enough momentum to surpass UneducatedFan’s well researched, objective approach to obtaining votes. Sherlock falls 133-86.
  • 5 pink22 vs. 12 StantonMac: Stanton pumped himself up for the big day by eating a balanced breakfast and wearing his game day outfit which consisted of a flannel shirt tucked into his jeans, no belt, gray-hued New Balance sneakers, and company issued ball cap. Success. Not only was he pumped up, but also his constituency. He upsets pink22 easily, 124-88.
  • 2 SausageKing vs. 15 zonacoug: A closer contest than should have been expected. zonacougar made a lot of noise, but the SausageKing wasn’t about to be the first 2-seed to fall. No one messes with the SausageKing. He wins 131-86.
  • 7 LaserCoug vs. 10 science pete: I just received written notification this morning from the board of scientific research that the results of this poll, 171-49 in favor of LaserCoug, are completely invalid until the methodology has been peer reviewed. Official results pending.
  • 3 JamesDean vs. 14 Robert Newman: This contest started out super cordial, until Robert Newman made a tongue-in-cheek comment that James took issue with. After a series of about 63 increasingly vitriolic boardmails between the two, it’s JamesDean who gets the final word with a 125-93 win.
  • 6 srey vs. 11 unctoothman: In one of the closest matchups of the day, the toothman was only able to get the board dentists to vote for him. This was still enough for a close 126-94 contest, but srey wins.

  • 1 riboflavin vs. 16 m4t4d0r: riboflavin took this whole thing super seriously. Not in the JamesDean kind of way, but in the “Oh man, wouldn’t it be hilarious if I actually showed up to m4t4d0r’s house wearing nothing but a speedo, a cape, and a luchador mask and just beat the crap out of the guy?!” kind of way. So that’s exactly what he did. But when he showed up yesterday, m4t4t0r’s kid answered the door and ribo immediately dipped into an existential slump. He was super bummed out on FO posts all day after that. Didn’t matter, he still won easily 185-40.
  • 8 Texas Hammer vs. 9 whirl: Texas dropped the hammer on whirl with a final score of 128-87 in this meaningless contest of two guys trying to get closer to a second round exit against riboflavin.
  • 4 SoCalCoug vs. 13 ChinoCoug: These two politically center-right board members, or as we call them here on Cougarboard: flaming liberals, spent the day measuring the length of their pony tails, seeing who could drink the most cups of coffee, and whose tweed jacket was softer. SoCal won two of the three contests and the matchup with a final score of 119-101.
  • 5 snowbird vs. 12 AndyDwyer: Who is the mysterious AndyDwyer, and what personal mod-favors does one have to do to obtain a “Private” status over past board monikers? Until these questions are answered, Andy doesn’t deserve a win over someone with the well established, credentialed ethos of a guy like snowbird who takes this round 120-100.
  • 2 kccougar vs. 15 Tom Kane: It’s unknown exactly how many boardmails kccougar sent out promising all the sordid details of the mod underworld in exchange for your vote, but apparently it was enough to secure a 142-80 victory.
  • 7 Left Shark Coug vs. 10 MormonDevil: Left Shark was confused from the start. He looked at the Spirit Bracket back on Tuesday and didn’t see himself, so he was unaware that he was even in the game. By the time he figured it out, all of his moves were completely out of sync and MormonDevil put him away 139-80.
  • 3 Malathion vs. 14 ByuImaginesDragons: This morning, ByuImaginesDragons is waking up to ash and dust. She’ll be checking out on the prison bus today as Malathion easily handled his first round foe. BID will sadly have to raise her flag and don her clothes, it’s a revolution I suppose. I feel it my bones, with a final score of 139-78, it’s enough to make my systems blow.
  • 6 Mantis Mutu vs. 11 Blue Print: This ended up being a pretty close match, but in the end it was Mantis’s even-keeled and consistent board presence that pushed him out ahead of Blue Print to a final tune of 129-83.

  • 1 nashty vs. 16 workindev: I received a stack of legal papers from nashty this morning explaining why he should win and what the score legally had to be. TL;DR. I just did what he said. So the score is 171-52 in favor of your winner, nashty.
  • 8 Solid-State Blue vs. 9 gurt: Arriving late to the matchup after being pulled over four times, gurt was able to mount a convincing comeback when he finally got here.  It was one of the Honor Bracket’s closer matchups, but gurt pulled ahead in the end, 113-96.
  • 4 Thunder Buddy vs. 13 WhiteKnight: The WhiteKnight was totally going to win this round, but then he published this weird manifesto in his FO list about how Cougarboard needed a hero and that you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain. They were all confused, but voted against him like he asked, resulting in a heart-wrenching 135-75 loss.
  • 5 PolarisPrime vs. 12 Mister P: Even though he lost in embarrassing fashion this round after calling two time outs at the end of the game to ice Mister P, PolarisPrime is adamant about the fact that he is still the guy for the future and will not only get the job done, but will take it all the way to the final four next year. Mister P becomes just another fortuitous 12 seed to take out a 5, 155-57.
  • 2 RyneK vs. 15 MrF: The only reason that RyneK won this round was due to the multiple posters who thought they were voting for RyanK, who of course is really Ryan Kessman who has a ton of supporters. Sorry MrF. Maybe your next name change should be EddieScip. Ryne with the 153-35 throttling.
  • 7 jdub vs. 10 SBJ: This one got boring quick as the two competitors insisted on a gentlemanly code of conduct. I mean, they were calling their own fouls. It was lame. jdub completes the jdub-drub with a final score of 137-72.
  • 3 JayOwen vs. 14 Bergloewe: JayOwen, who really just wants to be loved, was successfully loved into the next round as he takes down Bergloewe 145-65. We love you Jay. Someone go snuggle that guy. Anyone? Ribo? Ashtrash?
  • 6 RSLCoug vs. 11 UVSCCOUG: This one came down to the wire. Maybe in the past few years UVSC would have put up more of a fight, or maybe if he changed his name to UVUCOUG to get with the times he would have been able to put himself over the top. Regardless, RSL pulled ahead at the end for a 112-97 victory.

  • 1 oxcoug vs. 16 squidmark: This contest was never close as oxcoug moves on to the next round in convincing fashion, 178-40. He found this surprisingly satisfying as it was the first time he was ever able to be convincing.
  • 8 YSMACK vs. 9 RockyBalboa: Smack laid the smack down from the get go, putting off voters with his white-boy repute. Rocky had some sway until he took it to the next level threatening to really fight YSMACK, like in real life. He even showed up to the flag pole and sent pictures of himself ready to fight. That turned the crowd back in favor of SMACK who finished the match 120-94.
  • 4 The Dude Abides vs. 13 Zach: The Dude won this match in a landslide 164-53. Was it his easy-going vibe, his well-reasoned posts on a variety of topics, or was it the gall of his hip-length silk robe that he wears all the time? No, it was the fact that voters didn’t know which Zach they were voting for. Too many Zachs on here. Seriously.
  • 5 russkiejedi vs. 12 Bleeding Blue: From Bleeding Blue to bleeding broseph, this match was decided early. Russkie sent in the entire bench before half time. After this easy 160-49 victory, he should be well rested for his next match against The Dude. He’ll need it.
  • 2 kimchicoug vs. 15 BYUisLife: BYUisLife did everything he could, but kimchicoug ended up eating his opponent's lunch 165-56…which he found entirely unsatisfying since it included absolutely zero dog.
  • 7 MikeWaters vs. 10 Pete: It looks like MikeWaters invoked the name of Jimmer in vain one too many times. As a result, he will be banished to an eternity of eating chives in hades with the Peraltas. I mean, he couldn’t even beat a mod. Pete moves on with a score of 128-80.
  • 3 KingDave vs. 14 rggee: KingDave rode the good vibrations of his 3 seed to a comfortable 136-76 over his 14 seed foe. I personally voted against rggee due to his terrible moniker. Not that my vote made any difference, as the King moves on with a score of 136-76.
  • 6 JamesWestfall vs. 11 southernfriedcougar: Westfall fans breathed an audible sigh of relief as southernfriedcougar’s last second half-court heave rimmed out at the buzzer. He fends off the feisty 11 seed with a final score of 109-107. Yikes.
