We do need to make some major strides on defense. Unfortunately we still lack the defensive guards that can also contribute on offense. Bartley is a good defensive player but has not shown the offensive skills needed to start. I have not seen Chatman play defense, I have seen video of his shooting and that he can do.

Kaufusi made some major improvements on defense as the year progressed. I think he finally got to a point where he could just play the game and not think about where he needed to be on defense.

One of the criticisms of Rose is that his teams don't seem to care about defense. Some have suggested it is his JC background where teams tend to play a run and gun offense because there is no time to develop either a strong defensive game plan or a well structured offensive set of plays. I don't fully subscribe to that theory on Rose but I do agree with need to improve. You cannot expect to win every game that turns into a shootout.
