You say Teo would have plenty in San Diego, but he was going to Notre Dame. Notre Dame does not have a large basis of LDS Students, but there are some. The problem is that Teo had very little time to associate with any of them.

The life of a football player is class, practice repeat. When there is down time you generally spend it with friends, which for Teo would most likely come from the football team. So while there was an extremely limited pool of LDS females to begin with, it was even more difficult for him to associate with women. There is a reason that many BYU athletes end up dating and marrying other LDS athletes. They often study and go to class together.

If Teo was at BYU then 95% of the females he came in contact with would be LDS. His chances of finding someone to click with would go up astronomically. That is a fact. No maybe his perfect mate was at Notre Dame (she apparently wasn't) as she was one of the few LDS members there. Still, do you think your chances are better with 15 opportunities or 15,000?

As far as him having trouble after marriage that is a completely different story altogether. Not one that I have touched upon nor do I care to touch upon it (although LDS married athletes do better than most, not that that is saying a whole lot). I can guarantee you though that he won't get married in the temple if he doesn't marry an LDS girl.
