The Ford GT is Ford's Viper. It's a

Limited production vehicle with minimal options at an inflated price. Mass production never was the goal.

If you can understand the Ford GT, you should be able to get why Dodge doesn't care if a non-auto Viper drives away sales. They serve the same function.
