that's the case in every sport. And their athleticism and natural talent can be
...either honed or dulled during their time in college. Case in point, Matt Reynolds came to BYU as the #4 OT prospect in the country and a H.S. Parade All-American. After a great freshman campaign Matt was a freshman All-American and landed on the radar of NFL scouts.

By the end of his sophomore year he was being projected as a potential 1st day pick in the NFL draft (according to CBSSports.com "Reynolds—was a first-round projection had he entered the draft in 2011)

By the time he graduated he was down to 5th or 6th round potential ("He has fifth- or sixth-round talent as a reliable option on the offensive line but could have trouble if kept outside to protect the quarterback at the next level.—ranks No. 184 overall and No. 17 at his position." NFL.com) and yet 7 rounds went by and his name wasn't called.

Before the 2012 draft CBSSports.com said: "Reynolds is expected to be drafted, but he has no idea which round. "I've heard all across the board. It's hard to know right now," he said."

According to the NFL Draft Combine website Reynolds was in the “Draftable Player” category. Specifically, his score suggests he’ll be drafted somewhere in the 4th to 7th rounds.

Before the 2012 draft, multiple multiple multiple sources had Reynolds listed as a draftable player going somewhere in the later rounds. From being projected as a potential 1st round pick early in his career to not getting drafted at all, that was quite a precipitous fall. I've never read that Matt was lazy, not dedicated to his craft, entitled, etc. I've always had the impression he's quite the opposite.
