I typically am super charged when BYU is doing well. Following the OU win seeing Max Hall on the heisman list with people talking about my team and how they are looking really good. It brings some legitimacy to my little obsession that is BYU sports.
I do get emotionally wrapped up in the game because it's fun. If I didn't, no doubt the hard fought wins would not feel as good as they do, and of course the losses wouldn't sting as bad. This is what drives us all to follow the sport. It is not about my judgement of my own self worth, it is about the ride. Enjoyment with my family sitting down before a big game that could go either way. Some of the best memories I have are bouncing off the walls with them after a big win, and if we weren't at least somewhat emotionally invested it would not be the same. I cherish those memories with my loved ones, and I would not give them up for the sour gut wrenching feelings we get after a tough loss.
As BYU fans, we have had our share of painful game days, and I see how one could try and step back from the emotional roller coaster. I personally love it, as it brings my family together while we ride the ride. Win or lose I am glad I am there, sharing my life and little passions with the ones I love.
Go Cougars!
