Streets were filthy and, literally, smelled like garbage. It was in February and not even very warm outside. The garbage receptacles for the restaurants on Bourbon street area could be smelled from 100 ft away.

Believe me, I'm no wimp when it comes to "the world". I love NYC, Chicago, LA, SF, Boston and have worked/lived/traveled to them many, many times. I have seen seedy areas in all of those cities. Nothing compared to New Orleans.
