on the subject of Overuse...
...being an outsider I don't get where he feels he was over used. He had 419 carries and 86 catches spread out over 3 seasons and never carried the ball more than 200 times in any season. Even in his Doak Walker year he didn't even average 20 carries a game (he avg 16 carries per game). For a feature back that's kind of a light load. He also was very involved in the passing game but not to the degree that Curtis Brown was.

By comparison Curtis Brown played 4 yrs and was the featured back in the offense. He had 2 seasons where he had more than 200 carries (210 and 201) and was significantly more involved as a receiver out of the backfield than Luke was. he finished his BYU career with 641 carries and 157 catches.

A back who really shouldered the load was Harvey Unga. He finished his career with 696 carries in basically 3 seasons and finished with 102 catches both totals significantly higher than Lukes in the same number of seasons.

imo it seems like BYU coaches try to spread the work out and do a good job of it. Last year there were 24 RB's that had 250 or more carries on the season including 6 that had over 300 including Melvin Gordon who had 343 carries for 2587 yds. By comparison I just don't see how from a coach's standpoint that Luke was overused.

I hope he can eventually work through his feelings and have a relationship with BYU and feel happy about the direction of his life. Life would just be right as a BYU fan if Luke and BYU were on great terms.
