There was no guarantee that Walsh was going to be the starter in 1992. I always assumed that Detmer didn't want to compete with Shoemaker, but it would be interesting to interview Koy to get the inside scoop. Having another Detmer on the bench after Ty graduated would have put a lot of pressure on the coaching staff to play him.
