Right. Her comment that it's very hard is correct. I'm more commenting about
other folks who say they have family members with cushy tenure ... just reminding them that tenure was much easier 30 years ago.
Your family member is in the know, and is correct that it's tough today. Also it's true that it's hard to fire someone with tenure. There are some definite cons with this, but some definite good reasons for it too that people don't think about as much.
