Perception boost of being in the Big East for USF while UCF was CUSA
USF went from CUSA to Big East in 2005
UCF went from CUSA to Big East/AAC in 2013
Just that bloated perception applied to "all" BCS teams had a lot to do with that in the media.
Granted USF did have a few fast starts some years which from their spot in a BCS conference meant jumping quickly up the polls...
