Many Marriott alumni may give to something at BYU besides the MSM.
Like football
I'm a MSM alum and I give my yearly donation (small as it is) to something other than the MSM. Also, some MSM alumni might give plenty of money, but maybe only every few years.
To your other point about higher ed being a bubble: agreed. It will be ugly when it pops, but BYU and its students will weather it far better than most.
