It appears that main difference, according to Scout, between BYU and Utah's classes is quantity. Utah had 25 commits and BYU had 22. Utah had one 4-star, nineteen 3-star and five 2-star recruits. BYU had two 4-star and twelve 3-star, and eight 2-star recruits. So the real difference is that Utah had 7 more 3-star recruits and three more total recruits. And given that 2-star recruits are essentially unevaluated by Scout that leaves a pretty thin thread to distinguish between the two classes.
Let's not pretend that there is some sort of mathematical precision behind the star rating system. It's extremely unlikely that one could conjure up an statistical difference in quality between the two classes.
