many in the 90s, 2000, 2002, 2010 was my last game there. And it is different now(2010) than it was in the 90s. There has always been a few drunks in the crowd as that happens pretty much everywhere, but to a much lesser extent at BYU.

The main difference is the willingness of some fans to engage the BYU fans more negatively than in the past. I personally have not had any problems and do not mind good natured ribbing from other fans, but my wife hated it in 2010 at RES. I thought it most mostly pretty minor.

Point being, it depends on how the fan handles it a lot of the time.
