BYU fans notoriously arrive late, but that game the stadium was filled 30 minutes before the game started. The crowd was loud and crazy. No one in the student sections sat down ever. Very few people near the bottom of the stadium were in the correct seat. I was standing near the front row at about the 20 yard line. I got on TV twice.
Detmer threw for something like 404 yards. It was so fun to watch the Miami D-Line chase him like the keystone cops, and it was obvious that the altitude played a roll in the game as the Miami defense had a hard time catching their breath.
My voice was gone at half time. My ears were ringing for an hour after the game. My favorite play was when Detmer was scrambling and looking for an open receiver and he side stepped two Miami defenders and they hit each other and then he found Belini open in the end zone for the TD. Magic.
I have never felt the electricity in the stadium like it was that evening. Ty was a Heisman candidate. The #1 team in the nation was in town. The game was on ESPN. Its one of those moments in my life as a sports fan that I wish I could relive. It was that special.
