Agree it is more long term monetary decision (TV money), but with CFP perception
is becoming a factor. We've returned to impressing humans to get where you want to go in college football, leaving computers behind. The Big 12 minus 2 has a perception problem, or as some have called it "a psychological disadvantage." By only having 10 and no title game, their champ(s) is perceived on unequal footing vs. a PAC/SEC/B1G/ACC champ, and is likely to get bypassed like last year in a neck-and-neck situation. Adding a title game with 10 teams won't change that, and that is why they are discussing expansion now.

Therefore, if BYU has a strong year and makes some national noise in the rankings, it gives the Big 12 a PR win to invite BYU, and create the appearance of strengthening the conference.
