I don't listen to much Sports Talk Radio in Utah as most of it is just a bunch
of blow hards who half the time have no idea what they are talking about and the other half are openly antagonistic toward BYU sports in general and football in particular. I don't take much stock in what Brandon says as a pundit when he criticizes the play calling of Robert Anae. Brandon was one of the worst play calling OC's I have ever seen. He did not know how to set up plays. He had basically no game plan whatsoever, or if he did I could not figure it out. As a former HS football coach, in my very limited understanding of football, I have learned that sometimes one has to call plays in order to set up other plays. Screens and counter plays only work when you run the regular play that precedes it in the play book. Brandon did not seem to understand this.

Now I am not going to debate if Robert is a good play calling coach. I believe he is, especially when he has the players to execute his offense. I am personally not a big fan of GFGH, but I understand why they run this offense as they feel that it gives them a competitive advantage. I think the up tempo offense if it gains a few first downs every drive is great, but when the offense goes three and out it puts way too much pressure on the D. But Robert clearly understands how to call an offensive game plan, how to set up plays and when to call such plays.

Brandon did not figure out this and his offense and his QB's digressed.
