I doubt he is a walk on for very long
I would expect him to get a scholarship his 2nd year at BYU or his 3rd at longest. I believe he is a good candidate to RS his 1st year at BYU and then play sparingly as a RS FR in 17-18. I expect he will be a scholarship player the following year, 18-19, and likely in the rotation as a perimeter substitute and then a good chance to see significant playing time the next two years.

But we shall see if the short wait at BYU is more enticing to him than a full ride from the get go someplace else.
